Last weekend, i spent my days in sarawak. the plan started when ah soon, my ex-colleague and a good friend of mine, told us that he'll be driving back to sibu because he'll be moving to KL soon, to be with his wife, and he has to bring his car back to his hometown. knowing that, he'll be driving his car, so, we (henry, ah meng, tuako and i) would like to join him together for the journey.. and also, because i have never been to sarawak.
the journey started early in the morning on saturday at 6:50am, where we drove to weston to fetch tuako, and had our breakfast there. then we continue our journey sarawak. the one thing that one must not forget to bring is passport, or else, one will have to be left behind at the country's border. from weston, we passed through sipitang, to lawas, which is the nearest district of sarawak to sabah. we left malaysia through lawas (immigration check point) and enter brunei through temburong (immigration check point). upon entering brunei (for the first time), we have to stop at the health department booth for body temperature screening.
then, we went through brunei to another border (immigration check point) where we cross over, back to malaysia, which is through limbang (immigration check point). next, we went to the end of limbang (immigration check point), to cross over to bandar seri begawan(immigration check point) and left brunei through kuala belait (immigration check point). finally, we arrived in sungai tujuh, miri (immigration check point) at 3:30pm, after more than 8 hours journey, and 7 immigration check points plus three river crossing on a ferry.
during the whole journey, we actually stopped for lunch in limbang. our main mission for this trip is to have a taste of their food. so, our mission started in limbang. we had some of their local foods. though some of them can also be found in sabah, they can have slight differences, on the name, if not on the taste.
when we arrived in miri, we had our tea break, which were abc, rojak buah, and rojak kuih udang. but, too bad i didnt manage to take pictures of them because i was too excited when i saw the foods. ;p we stayed in a house which belongs to ah soon's friend..and i tell you, it is a brand new house..we are a few lucky people.. then, before dinner, we went around town to enjoy the sunset and also some interesting places in miri. our dinner was in the open market.
ah lo (a newly introduced friend) ordered a few of every type of food, for everyone to enjoy. so that night, we had...
the next morning, we had our breakfast in 2020 (the shop's name) and we had varieties of food again, where everyone got to taste everything being ordered. we had..
apart from that, we also had, mini yam ring, wu kok, slices of roast pork, kon loh mee, soya bean and air ular (she she chao).
then, ah meng and i were sent to the bus station for our next destination, sibu. henry, tuako and ah soon will be driving to sibu. it was another long 8- hours journey and there were a few stops before reaching sibu..miri- batu niah (30 mins stop)- bintulu (30 min stop)- selangau (30 mins stop)- sibu. the journey started at 10am and we reached sibu at 6pm (the other group reached at 4:30pm). at every stop, we didnt get to eat the food because we were afraid that the bus will leave us, if we were late.
when we reached sibu, ah soon brought us around town and tell us his childhood story. from his story, i realized how much sibu has developed to what we can see today. ah soon brought us to the most famous temple in sibu (which he MUST go, at least once, in a year) and we can see almost the whole town of sibu from the top of pagoda.
we went to sibu pasar malam to hunt for food before we have our real dinner. there were sio bee, sau pau, lu pau, apam balik and drinks.
there are more than that but we have to spare some space for the dinner. we had our dinner in taman muhibah and we ordered...
at the end of the day, all of us were too full, exhausted and feel like sleeping..hmm, very unhealthy lifestyle, huh..
next day, our final round of food hunting, ah soon brought us to chop hing huong where they serve the best ding pien wu..and this is one of the foochow food..hmm, in fact, every food introduced to us, are foochow's..

while we were still full with the breakfast that we had, we went to our last food outlet for these...
then, we went to the airport for our flight back to KK at 3pm.
